Adams County is well known for its historical significance. Its rolling foothills, mountains and valleys provide a picturesque backdrop to the site of the Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War and President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

Today, agriculture is the major employer producing and processing many fruit products. Adams County apples, peaches and cherries are widely distributed. Eggs, poultry and poultry products are also large producers.
